The The Institut Mutualiste Montsouris urology department is a university structure (Université René Descartes Paris 5) and is non-profit private hospital affiliated with the French public hospital system. The hospital is composed of 410 beds, with a predominantly surgical vocation with departments of cardiac surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, thoracic surgery and obstetrics and gynaecology.

The 30-bed urology department performs about 1,300 operations per year. 60 nurses, secretaries and room service persons work in the urological unit with 7 surgeons and doctors. The department provides 8.000 outpatient consultations per year.

Among the specificities of the department, focused on urological oncology, the urology team has developed a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy technique, a technique of prostate sparing during laparoscopic cystectomy for bladder cancer, and a technique of laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.

The department of urology has been classified in first position among the french hospitals in the Guide des Hôpitaux and le Point since 1998 until 2004 for prostate cancer.
