160 patients have been operated on with this technique in the department. A publication has been done in the Journal of Urology in December 2002.

  Mean age :

Type of bladder tumour : PT2 and PT3

Operating time : approximately 4 hours

  Mean intra-operative bleeding : 350 ml

  Only 5 patients required transfusion

Hospital stay is around 2 weeks. The 2 ureteral stents are removed around day 8 and the bladder catheter around day 10.

Oncological results :
The actuarial survival with no recurrence at 5 years is globally 70%.

Functional results :
The day continence is excellent with only two patients suffering from urinary leakage 0,7%. At night, during the first year, patients have spontaneous urine leakage which disappeared progressively. To limit this risk, they have to wake up 2 or 3 times per night.

Sexual fonction :
All patients who were potent before the operation remain potent except for two of them. The prostate sparing allows the neurovascular bundles preservation. As we remove surgically the transitional zone of the prostate, a retrograde ejaculation is the rule in all patients, but erections are not affected.
